Benjamin Franklin Bridge

Maintenance of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, a 2.9km suspension bridge crossing the Delaware River in the US, used by 100,000 vehicles and 40,000 rail travellers every day.

Client: Delaware River Port Authority

The project was made more difficult by the fact that the bridge is home to a family of peregrine falcons –  one of the most aggressive bird species in the area – which have often attacked maintenance staff, especially during the spring.

We realised that inspecting the cables near the nest involved unexpected hazards. So they called in wildlife experts from the state of Pennsylvania Department of Conservation to assist them in completing the inspection and coordinated their work with the wildlife team, to ensure that every single component of the bridge was fit for the future.
