Designing Future Cities campaign wins advertising award

Last week, our Designing Future Cities campaign beat the likes of Toyota and large Employment Unions, to win a sought-after Columbi Ägg, or ‘egg’ award in Stockholm.


The accolade was in recognition of the success the campaign had in reaching Public Sector decision-makers over the course of 2012.

Campaign Background- Why Cities?

Existing cities are expanding, developing and regenerating, while new cities are literally rising from the ground in some parts of the world. Cities are the largest existing growth market and within the next 20 years 75% of the world’s population will be living in cities, half of us already do!

WSP have significant skills, expertise and experience of urban sustainability projects and therefore have the opportunity to benefit from the growth of cities around the world.

The Designing Future Cities campaign aims to promote and deliver the services that we already offer and to provide a platform from which to develop and market new services. Our goal is to establish WSP in a pre-eminent position as a services provider for Future Cities worldwide.

The campaign has already been launched with great success in Sweden, Germany, South Africa and most recently Australia, so the prestigious Columbi Ägg award gives us welcomed exposure and momentum going forwards.

Campaign Background- Why Fashion?

When we were formulating our vision for Future Cities at WSP, we were inspired by other industries that are driven by innovation and change. The fashion industry is one such sector that, like our own, exists in symbiosis with cities, with good design at its heart. And so we asked up and coming fashion designers from some of the cities where we ourselves operate to interpret some of the different areas that we consider vital for future cities: Urban Development, Mobility, Property, Climate Change, Future Energy, Water, Waste, Regeneration and Social Responsibility.

This innovative approach has been key to standing out from the competition and capturing the interest of key decision makers. Of course the fanfare of the catwalk has to be backed up by real capability, and our Thought-Leaders and expert consultants have done an impressive job of exploiting these events to progress opportunities with clients.

The Award

The Annual Columbi Ägg awards are hosted by Dagen Samhälle, one of the largest National Swedish Newspapers, and celebrate the best campaigns of the year, targeted at public sector decision makers.

At the ceremony at the Van der Nootska Palace in Stockholm; the judges praised us for putting both Cities and Fashion at the heart of the campaign.
