On October 10th the Shard won ‘Major Project of the Year’ at the British Construction Industry Awards (BCI) Awards 2013.

The Shard team, including WSP who were structural engineers and worked on the iconic building from inception, collected the award at the 26th BCI Awards gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

WSP’s project team were at the awards and Kamran Moazami commented: “This is a proud moment for all who worked on the Shard and is a testament to the strong relationships between the entire team, which resulted in an efficient and sustainable structure, with maximum floor area, sensitive and exciting public spaces and proud and satisfied stakeholders.”

The judges said: "The Shard is impressive because they got the details right in the planning, design and construction. As a result it made the whole project look simple when, in reality, it was immensely complex."

The BCI Awards is an established and coveted award program with the ‘Major Building Project of the Year award’ recognised industry-wide. This award adds to the shower of awards the Shard has already won; please see our UK awards section for more details.

The Shard is one of London’s most ambitious and iconic buildings. The decade of planning, design and execution overcame many design and engineering challenges without compromising the design, and succeeded in difficult economic times. It is already an international symbol for London, hosting 8,000 workers, residents and hotel guests a day and 1 million public visitors a year.
