Parsons Brinckerhoff is part of consortium selected for $3.6 billion construction of LaGuardia Airport terminal

LaGuardia Gateway Partners has been selected by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as the preferred bidder for the new central terminal building at LaGuardia Airport in New York City.

The consortium will be in charge of designing, building, financing, operating and maintaining the facilities.

The first phase of the redevelopment project will be the demolition of the current terminal building and the rebuilding of a new, world-class terminal featuring a “central entry portal” which links the airport’s four currently disconnected terminals.

The design of the upgrade will allow for the integration of future amenities, such as premier shopping and dining space, a hotel, and a conference and business centre which will generate revenue for the Port Authority. The amenities will also include transportation features such as an AirTrain connecting the airport to the subway, ferry service and a people mover to help passengers traverse the airport.

The project will be funded by a public-private partnership (PPP), with the private sector contributing more than $2 billion and the Port Authority contributing more than $1 billion to construct the airport and supporting infrastructure.

The consortium includes Skanska, Vantage Airport Group, Meridiam, Walsh Construction, HOK and Parsons Brinckerhoff. According to the contract, LaGuardia Gateway Partners will take over operations at the central terminal building for a lease term through to 2050.
