Vantone Center, Tianjin, China

This corporate headquarters will be one of the most sustainable buildings of its kind and, at 185 meters, will also be one of the taller structures in downtown Tianjin’s thriving central business district. Its twisting, faceted form is realized in an elegantly simple, efficient structure.

The slender, optimized central tower core links via outrigger beams, hidden within the mechanical levels, to conventional vertical framing on the North and South faces. Columns along the slender East and West face slope to follow the façade, with a conventional floor system adjusting in the end bays. The fiberglass-reinforced concrete cladding reduces loading on the structure, and is carefully coordinated with the facets and sunshades for energy concerns and striking architectural expression.
